Quality and safeguards

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is an independent body working with providers to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services, investigate and resolve problems, and strengthen the skills and knowledge of providers and participants across Australia. Information about how the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services is on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission website.
Under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, the requirements for NDIS providers will be nationally consistent, proportionate to the size and scale of organisations, and responsive to an expanding market.
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services through:
- national provider registration guidelines
- NDIS Practice Standards
- NDIS Code of Conduct
- national worker screening system
- new complaints management and resolution system
- new incident management requirements, including reportable incidents
- new behaviour support requirements, to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices.
Currently, the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is managing quality and safeguards in New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. For information about who to register with under the NDIS, visit the Getting started as an NDIS provider page.
All NDIS Providers transferring to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission will be advised when to start their registration renewal with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, including the third party audit against the new NDIS Practice Standards. The registration renewal date assigned to an NDIS Provider will take into account the types and complexity of NDIS supports and services delivered, date of last audit, previous audit findings and compliance history.
For more information about transition and registration requirements, visit the NDIS Commission’s Providers web page.
